vermont: 'plain folk

we spent a day and night on jack's fault, my aunt and uncle's sailboat on lake champlain.  me, mum and my aunt enjoyed a sunny, colorful, warm and cool day of sailing.  we moored in burlington and got a front row seat to the sunset, thanks to liz's agile, motorless glide into place.  our neighbor's boat indicated they were from buel's gore, a town of around 12 people.  my mom, in true small town fashion, exclaimed, "oh, i know them!"  we grilled some steaks, watched the stars come out, and listened to the distant sounds of a live band playing in town.  fell asleep to a gentle lap of water against the side of the boat and woke up to the smell of coffee.

my uncle stanley is captain of the moonlight lady, an overnight vacation cruise that runs from burlington to montreal.  we got to sit in the pilot house and watch our captain skillfully remedy a broken impeller issue before he headed back out to quebec waters.

i had a bad case of land legs when we got back to dry land, and i felt a little drunk.  i've always adapted quickly to the water and i had trouble letting it go.
