my mother treated me, my brother, and my nephew to a day at the oregon zoo. our favorite part was the "great northwest", which was densely wooded with tall tall firs, and had streams with small waterfalls.
once we got through the arctic and africa, however, our joie de vivre had waned. some of the exhibits at the zoo are insidiously unnatural, like a community theatre set for blue lagoon.
i enjoyed seeing monkeys and penguins and lions, but i would prefer seeing them in their own habitat, protected from developing humans.
that said, we had a great time! i recommend going on a monday afternoon with an adorable child or two.
