the dispossessed

i found a beautiful hilltop that reminded me of The Grapes of Wrath.  of a devastated economy and a desperate people and an unrelenting landscape, promising nothing over and over.  i fell in love with it a little, and like everything i fall in love with, i wanted to shoot it.

i got an ass-kicking crew together on a wednesday afternoon and we hiked to the top.  we encountered ticks, rattlesnakes, beheaded bunnies and a swarm of bees.  the lofty plans i had so elaborately laid out in my head got washed out in the harsh light of calabasas.  if not for the talents and endless charm of my subjects, i might have been sunk.  bigtime thank you to robert, dylan, lucy, joanne, will, maggie, and haylee!!

i've put up a gallery of selects from the shoot on my site.  below are the pix that didn't make the cut.  i feel they deserve to be seen if not prized.

  1. I think all that you encountered, the bees, beheaded bunnies, ticks and snakes are quite symbolic of the unrelenting nature you were seeking, and still you and your crew persevered with such a beautiful outcome! Your pictures are a testament to the courage of the people who travail through challenging times both past and present!
